Peter Hain declares himself a candidate for Labour's deputy leadership; Alan Johnson is already up for it even though I can't remember him having said so; you could add Jack Straw, Margaret Beckett, a Campaign Groupie and A. N. Other and we've got a bit of contest on for a non-job.
The big question, however, is whether anyone is going to take on Gordon for the leadership. And – please forget McDonnell – I don't believe there are any takers.
Meanwhile, Blair put on a stunning performance at the TUC Congress today in his question-and-answer session. Nervous he might have been, but he dealt with a hostile audience with panache. And he was right about public services and about globalisation.

TB was absolutely sparkling this afternoon ...
He gripped the TUC and told them the facts of life. He looked his ememies straight in the eye and then shot them straight between them.
It was like High Noon in Blackpool. The morning was spent building up Bob Crow etc and no-one would join the posse against the mad trot looney, but then TB gets up on the stage on his own and says "come on Bob, come back if you think you're hard enough to go toe to toe with me." And predictably Comrade Bob crawls off to cry to the People's Daily Mail and Fox News.
TB goes on to wipe the floor, proving for anyone who needs proof that he's the best politician of his generation - Cameroon eat you heart out!
Best quote: "yes you're already passionate, but i'm just getting going..."
"He looked his ememies straight in the eye and then shot them straight between them." So he missed his enemies, did he?
The tragedy that is the British Labour Movement was on full display.
Does anyone (with a brain) think there would be anything like a trade union movement if Blair and New Labour had not won in 1997. The Tories would have totally shafted us.
But there they were attacking him, just being rude (no wonder so many people hate the left - we are just plain nasty) and jeering him, when he was the one who saved their bloody hides.
Anyone who thinks it will be better under Gordon needs a brain transplant.
Blair on globalisation, ~Ramsey Macdonald mark 4 or 5, weak economic understanding to justify the same old shit.
well third millenium, it also equals ecocide
Without the trade union movement, Tony Blair would be a jobbing solicitor in the suburbs, who plays guitar in a pub band at the weekend, still dreaming of one day being famous. He's always needed it much, much more than it's ever needed him.
